Opportunity Junction proudly celebrated the graduation of its inaugural Medical Assistant cohort, with 17 trainees completing the 12-week program, achieving a 100% graduation rate.
In late August, Opportunity Junction celebrated its inaugural Medical Assistant (MA) graduation ceremony, where seventeen trainees walked the stage, marking a significant milestone in their journey to becoming in-demand healthcare workers. Nearly half of the graduates were transition-aged youth (18-26 years of age) and 88% of participants were women.
Achieving a 100% graduation rate, the cohort demonstrated perseverance and dedication. The 12-week training program prepares participants for the MA role, which requires healthcare and administrative skills. The curriculum emphasizes person-centered care and includes medical terminology, billing, and coding; taking patients’ vital signs; giving injections and performing venipunctures; administering ECGs; calculating doses and metric conversions; and earning CPR certification. The program also includes professional development topics such as accountability, communication, and practices to learn and apply new knowledge for long-term career success.

Following graduation, participants were placed at designated medical facilities for 160 hours of hands-on training during the externship phase. After the completion of their externships, graduates will be placed into jobs in hospitals, medical offices, and medical clinics.
Congratulations to Opportunity Junction’s first class of MA graduates! We are excited to support you as you embark on your careers in healthcare and look forward to seeing you thrive in your chosen paths.
We are currently accepting applications for our next MA cohort which will begin in January.
