Empower Job Seekers: Volunteer for Mock Interviews!

Mock Interviews 250x350Opportunity Junction’s Administrative Careers Training (ACT) Class 75 interns recently had the chance to participate in mock interviews on February 20th, marking an important step in their transition from training to paid internships. The mock interviews are designed to help our interns practice answering tough questions, refine their communication, and receive constructive feedback. By simulating real-world interview scenarios, these sessions provide a safe environment where participants can hone their skills, build their confidence, and address areas of improvement before they face actual hiring managers.

The mock interviews were conducted by professionals from Citi Bank, who generously volunteered their time and expertise to simulate real-world interview scenarios. These volunteers underwent preparation, including reviewing job descriptions and interview questions, later providing feedback to help the interns refine their performance. Their thoughtful approach to the session made a lasting impact, with many of the interns expressing how much more confident they felt after the experience.

One intern, Alyssa Mae, shared how the session helped her overcome her fears: “The days leading up to our mock interviews were somewhat nerve-wracking, but once I met the Citi Bank volunteers, I felt so much more comfortable. They had such a warm and approachable nature when I spoke to them. During the mock interviews, they were patient and guided us into becoming better interviewees. Their feedback helped me feel more prepared for my real interview.” A few days later, Alyssa landed an interview and felt better equipped to succeed thanks to the session.

Citi Bank’s involvement is part of a broader effort by organizations like Chevron and Mechanics Bank, who also volunteer at least once a year to help our interns build essential career skills. Their ongoing support is invaluable in helping our trainees bridge the gap between training and employment.

We are grateful for the time and expertise shared by these companies, and we look forward to continuing this important work.
